EGNATIA Highway: Monitoring of construction phase
The monitoring of the construction phase has already begun, aiming at the close observation of the environmental specifications by the sub-contracting construction companies.

However, several infringements were discovered during the in situ investigations, mostly dealing with the mis-location of worksites and dumping sites in specified areas, or the over-extension of inert material extraction sites. Also, measures need to be taken for the sustainable utilization of the natural wealth of the area. The constructors, as well as the pertinent authorities have been notified of these incidents and mitigation measures are expected.
Thus, the conservation measures for the natural environment and the wildlife and the mitigation measures for the minimization of the effects due to the construction of the two highways, should be incorporated in a wider, integrated management plan for the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
