Large Carnivores

bear grey wolf Lynx

The large carnivores - animals like the bear, the wolf and the lynx- are not just powerful symbols of wildlife, but are also exceptional “indicators” of the relationship of humans with nature and of the condition in which the extended and of critical importance ecosystems are (forested, mountainous, agricultural).

The conservation of their populations and habitats requires human tolerance, as well as the conservation of alive ecosystems in extended areas. The presence of these species in an area, thus, guarantees, in a sense, that extended and of critical importance ecosystems (forested, mountainous, agricultural) are in a relatively good condition.

On the other side, the protection measures for these species, which as predators occupy a high position in the food chain, have multisided beneficial effects on other species of the wild fauna and flora. Their protection, therefore, does not concern only these species but also serves wider environmental objectives!
